EMERGENCY has active programmes in Afghanistan, Cambodia, Central African Republic, Iraq, Italy, Sierra Leone and Sudan.
EMERGENCY aims to create programmes that will not only guarantee free-of-charge high quality medical care, it also ensure that it builds capacity in the local health sectors where it works. Capacity is built in terms of infrastructure - EMERGENCY usually builds or renovates medical structures, which are subsequently handed over to the local health authorities - and also in terms of on-the-job training to the local national staff, which is provided by the teams of highly specialised international staff.
